5 Hot tips to give your home instant kerb appeal
What is kerb appeal? Kerb appeal is the impression your home gives at first sight. This is nothing to do with interiors; as you walk towards your home and stand on the pavement outside, imagine: what will your buyers be thinking? Will they be eager to race inside in hope that your home delivers in every way, or will they be disappointed?
We don’t accept sad faces here at Hunters, which is why we are sharing these hot tips to ensure that your home has maximum kerb appeal.
- Hot tip: A door that pops
It is only natural that our eyes focus on the front door, as it is the dominant feature of the outside of your home, so it really needs to pop. The style of your door needs to be in-keeping with your home, otherwise, it will feel out of balance.
Transform any tired paintwork with a fresh coat, but think carefully about the colour you choose. From clean crisp whites to heritage greens and greys, to eye-catching yellows and reds. The colour of your front door should be chic and elegant and have broad appeal.
- Hot tip: What’s the number?
Having your home clearly signposted by number or name is extremely important. This may seem like a rather simple ‘hot tip’, but not everyone – especially in new builds – is quick to attach a number to their door.
You want any potential buyer to be clear about exactly where they are headed, rather than wandering your street unsure which is the home they are going to view.
- Hot tip: Bring to life with colour
Whether you have a sweeping drive, a small garden, or a tiny path, any space can be brought to life with the injection of some colour. No matter the time of year, you will be able to find plants that are in bloom.
Add some colour to your garden by introducing seasonal plants to your flower beds. If space is limited, use plant pots and hanging baskets to create the same effect.
- Hot tip: A spring clean
I’m always amazed by the difference an afternoon of tidying and cleaning can make to any sized garden, whether that’s pulling up weeds, power hosing any paving or paths, removing any unneeded items, cutting back bushes and hedges, or just a general spring clean.
When faced with a well presented and cared for front garden, your buyers will know how much you look after your home. A big selling point in the eyes of a buyer.
- Hot tip: Lighting
Although in the summer we are blessed with lighter evenings, in the autumn and winter months many of your viewings could be happening on grey or dark days or evenings.
Make your home feel welcoming by including some clever lighting into your front garden design. Solar lights added to flower beds or along a path are an easy way to add character and warmth to your home.
